Lagos Speaker, Meranda denies resignation rumours

Date:

Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, has swiftly dismissed rumors that she has stepped down from her position, following online reports suggesting her resignation.

Segun Ajiboye, the Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, addressed the speculation on Wednesday, confirming that Meranda is still in office. “I’m in the office. The speaker is in the office. I don’t know where that is coming from,” Ajiboye stated in an interview with ‘PUNCH Online’.

The rumor gained traction after a circular, supposedly dated February 17, 2025, began circulating on social media, falsely claiming that Meranda had resigned. However, closer inspection of the letter revealed it lacked any signatures, raising questions about its authenticity.

The rumor comes at a time of heightened tension within the Lagos State Assembly, following the controversial removal of former Speaker Mudashiru, which sparked an ongoing leadership crisis among the lawmakers.
