NDLEA apprehends 3 suspects in Zamfara over attempt to supply bandits ammunition

Date:

Operatives from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have apprehended three individuals in Zamfara State suspected of smuggling live ammunition to bandits in the region.

The suspects—Adamu Tijani (35), Yunusa Yakubu (17), and Tijani Ismail (40)—were detained on Tuesday during a stop-and-search operation in Tsafe Local Government Area.

NDLEA officials revealed that the suspects were found in possession of 80 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, which were hidden inside a ‘bagco’ sac placed behind the driver’s seat of their vehicle.

In a statement to DAILY POST, an NDLEA official revealed that Tijani, the driver of the vehicle, admitted that an unnamed Nigerian soldier at the Ilelah border in Sokoto State had given him the sac.

The soldier, Tijani explained, told him the package contained broken tiles and instructed him to deliver it to a location in Ankpa, Kogi State, to either a man named Chazzy Baba or Baba Kata.

The two other suspects, Yakubu and Ismail, were described as motor boys to Tijani. Following the arrest, the suspects are set to be handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS) for further investigation.
