Five die, 20 missing as boats collide in Delta

Date:

A tragic boat collision occurred in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, resulting in the deaths of, at least, five people.

The incident happened on Monday evening when two speedboats carrying passengers returning from a burial ceremony crashed into each other. Unfortunately, 20 people are still missing.

Eyewitnesses attributed the accident to poor visibility, and it’s reported that most passengers weren’t wearing life jackets.

The Delta State Police Command spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the accident and stated that six survivors with injuries are receiving treatment at a hospital in Warri.

Rescue efforts are ongoing, with emergency responders and local volunteers searching for the missing victims.

A resident who witnessed the incident described the scene as chaotic, with people screaming for help and some managing to swim to safety while others disappeared beneath the water.
