Kano court jails two TikTokers for posting offensive videos

Date:

A magistrate court in Kano has sentenced TikTokers Ahmad Isa and Maryam Musa to one year in prison or a fine of N100,000 each for posting vulgar content online that breached the state’s religious and moral standards.

The duo was arrested by the Kano State Censorship Board after their videos sparked controversy. The state’s counsel, Garzali Maigari Bichi, charged them with criminal conspiracy and the dissemination of illicit content. Both Isa and Musa pleaded guilty to the charges.

Judge Hadiza Muhammad Hassan handed down the sentence, urging the offenders to maintain good behavior moving forward.

This case marks another incident of social media users facing legal consequences in Kano. The Kano Hisbah Board has previously arrested multiple TikTokers for violating the state’s Islamic laws.

Notably, in February 2024, Murja Kunya was detained for allegedly engaging in immoral acts, while G-Fresh al-Amin was arrested in June 2024 for making inappropriate remarks and improperly reciting the Fatiha, the first chapter of the Quran, during the last Salah celebration.
