PSC approves appointment of six new DIGs, one AIG, new CPs for Enugu, Oyo

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has confirmed the appointment of six new Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs) and the promotion of Commissioner of Police (CP) Uzuegbu Kanayo from Enugu State to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).

The newly appointed DIGs include Sadiq Idiris Abubakar, Commandant of the Police Academy in Wudil, Kano; Benjamin Nebolisa Okolo, former AIG of Zone 16 in Yenagoa and current AIG overseeing the Department of Information Communication Technology at the Force Headquarters in Abuja; Williams Adebowale, Commandant of the Police Staff College in Jos; Bzigu Yakubu Kwazi Bali, AIG of the FCID Annex in Enugu; Idegwu Basil Ukuoma, AIG of Zone 14 in Katsina; and Adebola Ayinde Hamzat, AIG of Zone 16 in Yenagoa and former CP of Oyo State Command.

CP Uzuegbu Kanayo, who has held several high-ranking positions including Assistant Commissioner of Operations in Zone 9, Area Commander in several states, and Deputy Commissioner of Finance and Administration in Edo State, was elevated to the rank of AIG.

Additionally, the PSC approved the appointment of two new Commissioners of Police: CP Ademola Johnson, who previously served as Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector General of Police, has been appointed CP for Oyo State, while CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa will take over as CP of Enugu State, succeeding the newly promoted AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu.

CP Giwa has served in various significant roles, including Deputy Commissioner of Police for Operations in Kaduna and Imo States, as well as several posts in the Police Mobile Force.

Additionally, the Commission approved the promotion of eight Chief Superintendents of Police to Assistant Commissioners of Police.

The promoted officers are Abdullahi Kamba Usman, Sani Abdu, Ifeanyi Owo, Vincent Orole, Elisha Atikinkpan, Margaret Okonkwo, Alhasan Aliyu Guga, and Imo Owinizi Ezekiel.

The promotion process included written examinations and interactive oral interviews. The sessions were presided over by DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd), Chairman of the PSC, along with other key members, including Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (Rtd), Honourable Commissioner representing the Judiciary; DIG Taiwo Lakanu (Rtd), Honourable Commissioner representing the Police; and Chief Onyemuchi Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission.

DIG Argungu congratulated the newly appointed and promoted officers, urging them to work closely with the Inspector General of Police to maintain law and order, ensuring the Nigeria Police Force’s readiness to secure the country’s safety and stability.
