New Leadership: Disu Assumes Office as FCT’s 32nd Police Commissioner

Date:

The newly appointed Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Olatunji Disu, has issued a stern warning to individuals intent on disrupting the peace of the nation’s capital, urging them to reconsider. Disu emphasized that his tenure would uphold a zero-tolerance policy towards crime.

During his first press conference in Abuja, Disu acknowledged the existing security challenges in the FCT and the efforts of his predecessors in maintaining relative peace. He pledged to build on this foundation, aiming to significantly enhance the security framework in the capital.

Disu outlined his administration’s approach, which will focus on community policing and strategic intelligence gathering. He highlighted that collaboration with local communities and stakeholders would be central to addressing the region’s security concerns. His administration will also encourage public feedback and participation to ensure a tailored and effective approach to law enforcement.

Below is an excerpt from Disu’s speech:

“Officers of the FCT Police Command, esteemed members of the press, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,

It is an honor and privilege to address you today as the new Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory. I extend my sincere appreciation to the Inspector General of Police for entrusting me with this significant role.

As I step into this position, I am fully aware of the security challenges facing the FCT. I acknowledge the foundational work laid by my predecessors, and I am determined to build on this groundwork to improve the overall security in our territory.

To those who seek to disrupt the tranquillity of the FCT, I send a clear and firm message: My administration will enforce a zero-tolerance policy on all forms of crime. We will remain resolute in protecting the peace of our community, ensuring law enforcement is both efficient and respectful of the rights of all citizens.

I also look forward to strengthening partnerships with community organizations, local leaders, and other stakeholders. Together, we will foster trust and collaborate on innovative strategies to tackle the security challenges that affect residents. Public insights and feedback will be key to refining our efforts, and I encourage everyone to actively contribute to our policing strategies.

We will prioritize the following areas:

Community Policing: Our officers will be more visible and accessible, ensuring that residents feel safe and secure.

Intelligence Gathering: We will enhance our intelligence-gathering capabilities to anticipate and prevent potential threats.

Technology Integration: Modern technology, such as data analytics and surveillance systems, will be used to improve our operational efficiency and response times.

Training and Development: Continuous training will be provided to officers to ensure they are equipped with the latest skills in modern policing.

Public Engagement: Through town hall meetings and outreach programs, we will strengthen the bond between the police and the community.

To the general public, I ask for your support and active involvement in our policing efforts. Together, we can build a safer, more secure environment for all.”

Disu concluded by emphasizing that security is a shared responsibility, calling for cooperation from residents to achieve lasting peace and safety in the Federal Capital Territory.
