On Saturday, the quiet town of Uga in Aguata Local Government Area, Anambra State, was overcome with sorrow as the community laid to rest three young siblings—Chikaima Ejezie (9), Chimziterem Ejezie (8), and Chimdirim Ejezie (5)—whose lives were tragically taken in a brutal act of violence.
The shocking deaths, which occurred on February 1, 2025, have left the entire community in mourning.
The grim event took place in Nnewichi, Nnewi North Local Government Area, when unknown attackers broke into the family home while the children’s mother was away taking an exam.
In a ruthless act, the assailants murdered the children and concealed their bodies in a freezer before fleeing, leaving the house eerily undisturbed.
The community was left reeling as the extent of the brutality became known.
A solemn funeral mass was held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Umueze Uga, where more than 30 priests, local leaders, royal fathers, and many mourners gathered to pay their respects.
Cardinal Ebere Okpalaeke, Archbishop of the Ekwulobia Diocese, led the mass and delivered a powerful sermon condemning the senseless killings.
“Killing innocent souls is a curse that has plagued humanity since time immemorial. The perpetrators of this crime will not know peace,” he declared.
The cardinal further urged those involved in similar acts of violence to repent, reminding them that “he who kills by the sword will die by the sword.”
He referred to the murdered siblings as martyrs, emphasizing that their deaths highlight the growing insecurity plaguing the nation.
As the burial ceremony concluded, the grief was overwhelming.
Family members, friends, schoolmates, and mourners gathered around to pay their respects, struggling to grasp the enormity of the tragedy.
The air was thick with sorrow as the community mourned the loss of three innocent lives taken too soon.
The children’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Udochukwu Ejezie, spoke through their tears, describing the loss as their worst nightmare.
“This is a pain no parent should ever experience,” Mrs. Ejezie said, her voice trembling with emotion.
“It’s an unimaginable loss.”

The grieving couple expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Anambra State Government, the Nigerian Police, and the community for the overwhelming support they’ve received during this painful time.
Mr. Ejezie called on the relevant authorities to intensify investigations and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“We want justice for our children,” he said, as he thanked the police for their ongoing efforts.
The Ejezie family and the broader community remain united in their call for answers and justice, vowing to honour the memory of the three innocent children whose lives were so violently taken.
