Nigerian troops conducting clearance operations in Zamfara State have successfully eliminated the notorious bandit leader, ‘Yellow Aboki,’ a close associate of the late terror kingpin, Hassan Bamamu.
The development was confirmed by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert focused on the Lake Chad region, who shared the news on Monday through a post on his X handle.
Makama reported that Yellow Aboki was killed in a recent encounter with troops from Operation FANSAN YANMA in the northwest of Tsafe Local Government Area (LGA).
This operation follows the military’s recent success, which resulted in the death of another feared bandit leader, Hassan Dantawaye, aka Bamamu. Dantawaye was one of Yellow Aboki’s closest allies in criminal activities.
According to Makama, Yellow Aboki had been solidifying his control over criminal operations in Zamfara, particularly following the death of his former leader, Hassan Bamamu.

He was active in areas such as Bamamu, Dan Mali, Agamalafiya, and Makera, where he orchestrated violent raids, kidnappings, and other criminal acts.
Makama also highlighted the ongoing military efforts to target bandit kingpins in Zamfara, Sokoto, and other volatile regions in the Northwest.
The sustained military pressure has weakened the bandits’ ability to confront troops directly, leading them to shift tactics and carry out smaller-scale attacks on vulnerable communities with limited security presence.
