Davido made me love Pidgin, Afrobeats – King Charles lll

Date:

King Charles III has given a major shoutout to Davido, saying his song “Kante” featuring Fave, has deepened his love for Pidgin English and Afrobeats.

The British monarch’s praise is a huge nod to the growing influence of Afrobeats globally and its role in promoting African culture.

King Charles said “It is by the Nigerian artiste Davido, and his song ‘Kante’ featuring Fave. It also features lyrics in Pidgin, which I love in all its forms, and in which I attempted to make a speech when I last visited Nigeria. Thanks to Afrobeats, it is becoming ever more popular around”.

King Charles III’s exclusive Commonwealth playlist, which features Davido’s ‘Kante’, showcases a diverse selection of tracks that reflect the rich cultural heritage of the Commonwealth.

Other iconic artists on the playlist include Bob Marley, Kylie Minogue, and Grace Jones.
