A suspected cultist, Segun Ogunfunmilayo, has been apprehended by the Osun State Police Command for allegedly shooting a grocery seller in the Ede area following a dispute over payment.
The incident occurred on the evening of March 8, 2025, around 9:00 PM, in the Bihari/Ishola area of Ede.
Ogunfunmilayo reportedly purchased a bottle of energy drink from the victim and promised to transfer the payment via bank transfer.
However, when the victim did not receive the expected transfer, he approached Ogunfunmilayo to request the payment. This request reportedly enraged the suspect.
According to a statement released by the Osun State Police Command on Thursday, acting Police Public Relations Officer, Adeola Adeoye, disclosed that in addition to the energy drink, Ogunfunmilayo had also taken a sum of N400 from the seller.
The suspect had promised to transfer a total of N900 to the victim, but the transfer never materialized, leading to the confrontation.
The situation escalated when Ogunfunmilayo, in a fit of anger, shot the grocery seller. The police swiftly intervened, arresting the suspect and bringing him into custody.
The incident has raised concerns about the rising levels of violence linked to financial disputes, with authorities vowing to pursue justice for the victim. Ogunfunmilayo is currently facing charges, while the investigation continues.
The Osun State Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to ensuring safety and resolving similar cases swiftly.
The statement partly read, “On March 8, 2025, at about 9:00 pm, Segun Ogunfunmilayo went to the complainant’s shop located in the Bihari/Ishola area, Ede, Osun State and bought an energy drink at the rate of N500, he demanded cash of N400 from the complainant so that he could transfer the sum of N900 to him which he obliged.

“To his surprise, the suspect brought out a cut-to-size pistol from his bag and shot him in his left hand and right arm and took to his heels.”
Adeoye, who said the suspect was later apprehended by the police and some civilian volunteers, added that Ogunfunmilayo under interrogation admitted being a member of a secret society called Alora.
“On receipt of the report, the police swung into action in collaboration with the Civilian JTF and trailed the suspect to his hideout where he was arrested. One cut-to-size pistol and a live cartridge were recovered from the suspect as exhibits.
“The suspect who confessed to being a member of the Alora cult group will be charged to court after the completion of the investigation,” Adeoye said.
