Fubara vacates Rivers Gov’t House amid emergency rule

Date:

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has vacated the Government House in Port Harcourt, along with his family and security details, following President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in the state.

A close source, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed that Fubara left the premises early on Wednesday morning.

Despite the Governor’s departure, security at the Government House remains minimal. Two Armoured Personnel Carriers that were stationed in front of the premises on Tuesday night remain in place, with a small contingent of security personnel still guarding the area.

As of the time of this report, normal activities continue in Port Harcourt and its surrounding areas, with no major disruptions reported.

In the wake of the state of emergency, Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (retd.), the Sole Administrator appointed by President Tinubu to oversee the state for the next six months, had yet to assume office by 12:50 p.m. on Wednesday. However, preparations for his arrival were visibly underway, with around 15 soldiers seen inside the Government House grounds, awaiting his expected entry.
