Akwa Ibom offers free tickets for Super Eagles’ clash against Zimbabwe

Date:

In a remarkable gesture of support for the Super Eagles, the Akwa Ibom state government has announced that it will provide free tickets for Nigeria’s upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe.

The highly anticipated match is scheduled for Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

Paul Bassey, the state’s sports commissioner, confirmed the news in a statement on Monday, revealing that Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom had purchased all 30,000 tickets for the match, ensuring that fans can attend at no cost.

The Super Eagles, currently grappling with a difficult World Cup qualifying campaign, will face Zimbabwe in their sixth match. The team has struggled so far, with only one win in their first five matches.

Their most recent outing was a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe in November 2023, adding pressure on the squad as they look to turn their fortunes around.

The Eagles secured their first victory of the campaign last Friday with a 2-0 win over Rwanda, but their position remains precarious. With six points from five matches, Nigeria is currently fourth in Group C.

Bassey highlighted that the free tickets would be distributed at various locations throughout the state, including radio stations, De Venus Bar and Restaurant along Stadium Road, Uyo Township Stadium, Plaza Management Committee Office, and other established sales agents and centers.

In an additional incentive, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced that the first 500 fans to collect their tickets will receive free Super Eagles jerseys.

As the stakes rise, a victory for Nigeria against Zimbabwe could provide a much-needed boost to their qualification hopes. However, any result other than a win will make the road to the 2026 World Cup even more challenging for the Super Eagles.

Current Group C Standings After Five Games:

  • South Africa: 10 points
  • Benin Republic: 8 points
  • Rwanda: 7 points
  • Nigeria: 6 points
  • Lesotho: 5 points
  • Zimbabwe: 3 points

The countdown to the game is on, and with the support of the fans, Nigeria’s Super Eagles will look to soar once again!
