Bollywood star Manoj Kumar dies at 87 after battling health issues

A renowned Indian actor and director, Manoj Kumar, known for his patriotic-themed films, passed away today, April 4, 2025, at the age of 87 due to heart-related complications.

This was disclosed by his son, Kunal Goswami, who confirmed that the actor passed away on Friday in Mumbai.

Goswami told India’s ANI news agency that Kumar died from heart-related complications, and that cremation will take place on Saturday.

He died peacefully at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, where he was admitted on February 21, 2025, after his condition worsened.

It was revealed that Kumar’s death was caused by cardiogenic shock due to acute myocardial infarction, compounded by decompensated liver cirrhosis.

Following his death, several notable figures have paid tribute to Kumar, including the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who described him as ‘an icon of Indian cinema, known for his inspiring patriotic zeal’, whose works ignited a spirit of national pride.

Actor, Ajay Devgn honored Kumar for his unmatched contributions to Indian cinema, recalling how he gave his father, Veeru Devgan, his first break as an action director in “Roti Kapda Aur Makaan”.

Born Harikrishan Goswami, Kumar was a celebrated actor and director with a career spanning over four decades. Some of his notable works include ‘Upkar’, ‘Purab Aur Paschim’, ‘Shor’, and ‘Kranti’, which showcased his love for India and inspired national pride.

He was a recipient of the Padma Shri (1992), Dadasaheb Phalke Award (2015), National Film Award, and seven Filmfare Awards.

Manoj Kumar’s legacy will continue to inspire generations through his films, cementing his place as a cinematic icon and patriot in Indian cinema.

Kumar is survived by wife Shashi Goswami and two children, Kunal and Vishal.
