George Moghalu clinches LP ticket for Anambra guber poll

Date:

In a resounding victory, Dr. George Moghalu, former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), has emerged as the Labour Party (LP) candidate for the Anambra State governorship election set for November 8.

Moghalu secured the ticket in a smooth and transparent primary election held in Awka on Saturday, where he triumphed over his sole rival, John Chuma Nwosu.

The final tally saw Moghalu garner 573 delegate votes, while Nwosu received a mere 19 votes, a clear indication of the delegates’ overwhelming support for the former NIWA boss.

The announcement of his victory set off jubilant celebrations in the hall, which was filled to capacity with over 1,000 party members and stakeholders.

The air was filled with chants, songs, and dances as the Labour Party faithful commemorated the historic moment.

In his victory speech, Moghalu acknowledged the daunting task ahead of him, particularly the challenge of facing the incumbent Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo in the upcoming election.

He likened the election to a high-stakes football match, urging delegates to choose wisely as they would be selecting the “first team” for the critical contest ahead.

“The election we are heading into on November 8 is the Premier League,” Moghalu said. “This is not a game for amateurs, but it’s certainly achievable. We must go into this election with our best foot forward, and I humbly ask for your trust. My track record speaks for itself, and I promise not to betray the confidence you’ve placed in me.”

Moghalu made a commitment to restore the lost confidence in the current administration and outlined his vision for a better Anambra.

He assured delegates and the people of Anambra that, under his leadership, they would see a government that truly serves the people’s interests.

He said: “We are going into this election determined to change the narrative. The trajectory today is such that Anambra State needs a rejig. Our security and basic infrastructure have all failed and something has to be done.”

“I must acknowledge that there are areas they have done very well, but there is need for improvement and we will definitely done those improvements for the benefit of our people.”

“The most important and critical thing that has taken flight in the politics of Anambra is that the people have lost confidence in their government and our mission is to restore the confidence of our people in their government and that can only be possible by offering them good governance. Restore your confidence in me and I will justify it and change the narrative.”

“I appeal to you to trust me, check my political trajectory and you will see that I have never started a project I did not complete. I represent the light that will bring glory for the name of God Almighty and for the benefit of NdiAnambra,” he assured.

In his acceptance speech, Moghalu called for unity, declaring no victor or vanquished. He urged Nwosu and his supporters to join forces to ensure LP’s success in November.
