Diamond bank founder, Pascal Dozie passes away at 86

Pascal Dozie, a pioneering Nigerian entrepreneur and business magnate, has passed away at the age of 86.

According to sources close to the family who spoke to Business Day, Dozie died after a prolonged battle with age-related health issues.

Dozie was widely recognized as one of Nigeria’s most influential figures in the banking and business sectors.

He is best known as the founder of Diamond Bank, a financial institution that played a major role in Nigeria’s banking landscape.

Additionally, he served as the chairman of Pan-Atlantic University, leaving a significant mark on the educational sector.

Born on April 9, 1939, in Egbu, Owerri, Imo State, Dozie had an illustrious educational background.

He earned a degree in Economics from the prestigious London School of Economics and a master’s in Administrative Science from City University in London.

Beyond his contributions to banking, Dozie founded the African Development Consulting Group, which collaborated with major international corporations such as Nestlé and Pfizer.

His leadership extended to MTN Group, where he served as chairman before stepping down, making way for Ernest Ndukwe.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s banking industry, Dozie was honored with the National Award of the Order of the Niger (OON).

He is survived by his wife, Chinyere Dozie, five children, and numerous other family members. His legacy of innovation, leadership, and commitment to national development leaves a lasting impact on Nigeria’s business community.
