Davido opens up on relationship with Wizkid and Burna Boy

Date:

Nigerian music superstar, Davido, has revealed that he’s no longer close with fellow artists, Wizkid and Burna Boy.

In a recent interview on Breakfast Club, Davido said the Nigerian music industry has evolved, and the conversation now extends beyond the “big three.”

According to Davido, emerging artists like Rema and Ayra Starr have contributed to the growth of the industry, making it bigger than individual successes.

He said “I don’t have a personal relationship with Wizkid and Burna Boy. I did at some point but I think the culture is big and the conversation is bigger than the big three right now.

“There was a time we were cool, but that’s some years ago, now there is so much success and people between us.

“Also, it’s not just about us anymore. There is Rema, Ayra Starr. There are so many artistes for us to make this about us. I feel right now, the three of us understand that it is bigger than us.”

While he didn’t rule out potential collaborations with Wizkid and Burna Boy, Davido believes people around them might discourage it due to benefiting from the tension.

Describing himself as a free-spirited person, Davido said he’s different from Burna Boy’s rebellious image, and Wizkid’s enigmatic persona.

He credits his carefree nature for his success, refusing to conform to superstar expectations.

“I’m just me. People know me as the outgoing, free guy. I’m not a rebel like Burna Boy or mystical like Wizkid, I can’t act that way.

“Some people tell me I’m too free, don’t I know I’m a superstar. I’ll be like, if my dad walks pass you right now, you wouldn’t know, so that’s how I grew up.

“My manager gets mad at me for wearing slippers in the house. There are people born artistes, who comes out of their room looking good.

“Some people are like that and it works for them. What works for them, works for them. Maybe if they are free like me, they wouldn’t get what they have and the way I’m is what has helped me.”
