Buhari receives Ganduje, APC NWC members in Kaduna

Date:

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, on Friday led members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to visit former President Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Kaduna State.

The high-level visit came just hours after former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, led a delegation of opposition figures to pay Sallah homage to the former president.

Atiku’s delegation included a number of prominent political figures such as former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, ex-Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal, former Imo State Governor Achike Udenwa, ex-Benue Governor Gabriel Suswam, former Adamawa Governor Jibrilla Bindow, as well as former federal ministers Abubakar Malami (Justice) and Isa Pantami (Communications).

Addressing journalists after the visit, El-Rufai dismissed speculations about political undertones, insisting the gathering was purely in the spirit of unity and celebration.

“This visit is not political. It’s about unity, brotherhood, and respect. Adversaries shouldn’t lose sleep,” El-Rufai stated.

While the APC leadership has not disclosed the agenda or outcome of their meeting with Buhari, the visit comes at a time of rising tension within the party, particularly surrounding the reported defection of members from the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) bloc — one of the four legacy parties that merged to form the APC in 2013.

There is growing speculation about the future of the CPC faction within the APC, especially after some of its members reportedly defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Despite internal party challenges, former President Buhari has reiterated his loyalty to the APC, declaring publicly that he remains committed to the party he helped establish and has no intention of leaving.
