Toke Makinwa sparks controversy with polygamy comments

Date:

Nigerian media personality, Toke Makinwa, has ignited a heated debate with her recent comments on polygamy where she expressed her willingness to be a second, third, or fourth wife, if the opportunity arises.

Makinwa disclosed this on her podcast, Toke Moments, where she said she’s open to marriage.

Though Makinwa has been open about her past experiences, including her divorce from fitness expert, Maje Ayida in 2016, but her polygamy statement has sparked mixed reactions, with some praising her confidence and others criticizing her views on polygamy.

Speaking on the podcast, she said “At this point in my life, if I have the opportunity to marry again, as a second, third, fourth or fifth wife, I will take it.”

The media personality who turned 40 last year admitted that being single and childless at 40 always makes her tear up.

She said “I am 40, I am single, and I am childless. I said it, and I didn’t die, which always made me tear up. I look at my life like I am 40 and a boss, have built an empire, I am one of the most resounding voices in Africa.”

Makinwa’s first marriage ended due to adultery, and she was blamed for the marriage failure despite being the victim. She has since focused on her career and personal growth, building a successful empire and becoming one of the most influential voices in Africa.
