Not even Turji or Shekau can help Atiku, El-Rufai win in 2027 — APC chieftain

Date:

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ayekooto Akindele, has dismissed the chances of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai in the 2027 presidential election, despite ongoing efforts to form a broad opposition alliance.

In a strongly worded Facebook post, Akindele said the duo’s political ambitions are doomed to fail, regardless of their alliances.

He went as far as claiming that even if they aligned with notorious figures like Boko Haram’s late leader Abubakar Shekau or bandit kingpin Bello Turji, they would still suffer a resounding defeat.

“By the time power will shift to the North in 2031, it will be in hand of a Pan-Nigerian politician. People like Atiku, El-Rufai must never come near power again.” he wrote. “If Atiku and El-Rufai like, let them merge with Shekau and Turji, they will lose abysmally in 2027.”

Akindele’s comments come in the wake of a new opposition coalition announced by Atiku, which reportedly includes Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi and El-Rufai, among others.

The coalition aims to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s hold on power in the next election cycle.

El-Rufai recently defected from the APC to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), citing a lack of internal democracy within the ruling party since President Tinubu assumed office.

Meanwhile, Adewale Adebayo, former SDP presidential candidate, confirmed that talks are ongoing with Atiku, Obi, and other political heavyweights to join the party.

He expressed confidence that a united opposition front under the SDP’s values could unseat the APC and bring a new political direction to Nigeria
