Breaking: Atiku launches nationwide coalition movement, says “the train has left the station”

Date:

Nigerian former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has reaffirmed his commitment to spearheading a broad-based, pan-Nigerian coalition aimed at reclaiming and rebuilding the country.

The declaration came following separate meetings with two delegations comprising political stakeholders and national opinion leaders.

Atiku in a post shared on his X account on Wednesday revealed that the movement is gaining momentum and drawing support from across Nigeria’s diverse regions and political spectrums.

“Yesterday, I met with a delegation of two groups, during which I briefed them about the status of the pan-Nigerian coalition that I am building in conjunction with other leaders and stakeholders across political divides and regions,” Atiku said.

He noted that the new movement, referred to as the Nigerian Movement, is not just another political arrangement but a collective effort driven by ordinary Nigerians who are passionate about rescuing the nation from its current challenges.

“I informed them that the Nigerian Movement is being powered by Nigerians desirous of reclaiming and rebuilding their country from across the nooks and crannies of our country,” he emphasized.

Atiku described the coalition as a symbolic train that has already commenced its journey, with more Nigerians expected to join as it progresses.

“Indeed, the Coalition Train has left the station and would have multiple stops to bring on board Nigerians of all shades,” he declared.

The first of the meetings was with a delegation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State, led by Alhaji Jibirin Sabo Keana.

The second involved a delegation of National Opinion Leaders, led by Hon. Yusuf Sheriff Banki.

It is believed that the former vice president who was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023 will be engaging in more high-level consultations and coalition-building meetings in the coming weeks, aimed at galvanizing support for what is shaping up to be a major political force ahead of Nigeria’s next general elections.

It would be recalled that governors on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during their meeting on Monday in Ibadan, Oyo State capital ruled out any possibility of entering into a merger or coalition with other political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The governors asserted that the PDP remains the leading platform for credible opposition and change in Nigeria.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, Atiku’s renewed efforts to form a united national front may signal a significant turning point in the opposition’s strategy to challenge the status quo and re-engage the Nigerian populace in democratic renewal.
