“As a politician, I am not happy with the declaration of Emergency Rule in Rivers state. I wanted the outright removal of the governor (Siminalayi Fubara),” Wike admitted candidly. “But for the interest of the state, the president did the right thing to prevent anarchy in the state.”

The FCT Minister, known for his confrontational political style, dismissed concerns about Governor Fubara’s political predicament with characteristic directness. “What calamity, that the governor is removed? Was it a coup? I never told anybody that I’m a pastor or an imam; it’s a power game,” he stated.

“The governor was gone; they should worship Mr. President. Every morning, they go to the president and say, ‘Can we wash your feet for saving us?'” he remarked.

On the subject of potential political coalition spearheaded by Atiku Abubakar, Wike dismissed coalition talks as opportunistic.

He criticized the former Vice President saying: “For those who are looking for a coalition, is for selfish interests, the likes of Atiku and other people, which coalition, with whom? Everybody wants to become president of the country.”

Wike, the immediate past Governor of Rivers State revealed he had confronted his ally, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, about recent statements. “After watching that interview, I called Seyi Makinde, who is my friend, and said, ‘Look, I heard what you said, but you didn’t tell the truth regarding some issues,'” Wike concluded.
