Liverpool edge closer to premier league glory after 1-0 victory over Leicester

Date:

In a tense and emotionally charged evening at the King Power Stadium, Liverpool dealt a final blow to Leicester City’s hopes of survival in the Premier League, sealing a 1-0 win thanks to a late strike from Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Returning to the starting lineup with purpose, Alexander-Arnold proved to be the hero of the night, smashing home a thunderous effort deep into the second half following a chaotic goalmouth scramble.

The full-back’s stunning strike not only earned Liverpool three vital points but also pushed them one step closer to clinching the Premier League title.

Liverpool dominated possession and territory, especially after the break, as Mohamed Salah came agonizingly close to scoring, striking both posts in the first half.

Despite creating a flurry of chances — reflected in an expected goals (xG) tally of 2.62 — the Reds were made to wait for their breakthrough.

Leicester, on the other hand, struggled to create anything meaningful, managing an xG of just 0.25 and extending their miserable run to nine home matches without a goal.

The result confirmed Leicester City’s relegation, ending their rollercoaster decade in the top flight that saw them crowned champions in 2016 in one of football’s most astonishing underdog stories.

For Liverpool, the narrow victory means the title race could be decided in a matter of days. If Arsenal fall to Crystal Palace on Wednesday, the Merseyside club will be officially crowned champions.

If the Gunners keep the race alive, Liverpool can secure the trophy themselves with a win over Tottenham at Anfield next Sunday.

Manager Arne Slot, overseeing his debut campaign in charge, praised the resilience of his players after the final whistle, highlighting their patience and perseverance against a desperate Leicester side.

With momentum firmly behind them and the finish line in sight, Liverpool’s march toward domestic glory continues.
