‘Go and compete with my children’, MC Oluomo tell critics over ‘Kundus’ comment

Date:

President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, widely known as MC Oluomo, has broken his silence following widespread online mockery over his mispronunciation of the word “kudos” as “kundus.”

In a video that surfaced on Tuesday, Akinsanya addressed delegates of the union, acknowledging the viral jokes but stating that he remains undisturbed by the ridicule.

He admitted to having limited formal education, saying that while he may not speak perfect English, he is proud of his accomplishments and the success of his children, who now hold citizenship in both the United States and the United Kingdom.

Reflecting on his background, Akinsanya shared that he chose a career in the transport industry over school, starting out as a bus conductor.

He emphasized that his personal and professional achievements should be viewed as a testament to determination and hard work, not academic credentials.

In the now viral video, Oluomo was seen saying: “If you and my children come out to express yourself, I’m not sure you can beat them, they are highly educated. I trained my children properly with money. My children are citizens of America and the United Kingdom. I worked hard to get there.

“ ‘Kundusi!’ What happened? Grammars are too much. Grammar won’t finish Nigeria, I might not understand the English language, but I understand Yoruba.

“I started as a bus conductor, then as a treasurer of a unit of NURTW, to unit chairman, to branch deputy treasurer, to branch treasurer, to branch chairman, to state chairman, and then to national president. I worked hard to get here. I am not educated.

“So they are mocking me for saying ‘kundusi’, is my child not Qudus? You that you are educated, what did you do?”

His comment came after a previous viral clip in which he mistakenly used “kundus” while attempting to applaud the efforts of union members in Abuja.
