Late Afenifere leader Ayo Adebanjo to be laid to rest May 3 – Family

The family of the late Chief Ayo Adebanjo, who passed away on February 14 at the age of 96, has released details of his upcoming funeral ceremonies.

The former leader of the Afenifere pan-Yoruba socio-political organization will be laid to rest on Saturday, May 3, 2025.

According to the family, the memorial events will span four days, beginning on Wednesday, April 30, with a tribute ceremony and service of songs at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos.

The commemorative activities will continue with a wake on Friday, May 2, at Chief Adebanjo’s residence in Isanya Ogbo, near Ijebu Ode in Ogun State.

The main funeral service will take place the following day, May 3, at St. Phillips Anglican Church in Isanya Ogbo.

The series of memorial events will conclude on Sunday, May 4, with a thanksgiving service.The family has indicated that memorial materials such as program brochures will be available for the ceremonies.

They have also expressed willingness to participate in pre-event interviews and press briefings for those interested in learning more about the arrangements or Chief Adebanjo’s legacy.

Late Adebanjo was a co-founder of Afenifere.
