Suspect declared wanted over CBEX scam, Abiodun surrenders to EFCC

Date:

Adefowora Abiodun, one of the individuals recently declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged $1 billion investment scam linked to Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX), has voluntarily surrendered to authorities.

Abiodun, who was among four persons earlier listed as wanted by the EFCC, turned himself in at the commission’s headquarters around 4 p.m. on Sunday, accompanied by his lawyers, relatives, and friends.

He expressed his willingness to cooperate fully with the investigation.

The EFCC had named Seyi Oloyede, Emmanuel Uko, Adefowora Oluwanisola, and Adefowora Abiodun Olaonipekun as suspects in the alleged fraudulent scheme associated with CBEX.

Last Thursday, the Federal High Court in Abuja granted the EFCC permission to arrest and detain six suspected CBEX promoters pending the completion of investigations and possible prosecution.

The ruling, delivered by Justice Emeka Nwite, followed an ex parte application filed by EFCC counsel, Fadila Yusuf.

In granting the order, Justice Nwite stated: “I have listened to the submission of learned counsel for the applicant and reviewed the affidavit evidence and exhibits. I am satisfied that the application is meritorious and hereby grant it as prayed.”

The suspects named in the court order include Adefowora Abiodun Olanipekun, Adefowora Oluwanisola, Emmanuel Uko, Seyi Oloyede, Avwerosuo Otorudo, and Chukwuebuka Ehirim.

Speaking through his lawyer, Babatunde Busari, Abiodun said he chose to surrender in order to clear his name and counter the negative public narrative surrounding the case.
