General Buba Marwa, Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has been summoned by the Senate to address allegations against the Deputy Senate Leader Senator Oyelola Ashiru of the APC from Kwara South.

In response to allegations that Senator Ashiru made derogatory remarks about the NDLEA after it failed to prevent the arrest of individuals associated with drug abuse in his residence, a six-member panel has been formed to investigate the matter.

Led by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe of APGA from Abia South, the panel includes Senators Kaka Shehu (APC, Borno Central); Ede Dafinone (APC, Delta Central); Ireti Kingibe (LP, FCT); Afolabi Shauibu (APC, Ogun Central); and Lawal Usman (PDP, Kaduna Central).

The Senate’s decision followed a point of order raised by Ashiru, who invoked Order 42 to clarify the impact of the allegations on his integrity, emphasising that he does not consume alcohol or carbonated drinks, only water.
