Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Olisa Agbakoba, has issued a follow-up letter to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, demanding that she retract her sexual harassment allegation against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The letter, dated April 14, comes after the senator failed to respond to an earlier request from Agbakoba for clarification on inconsistencies in her claims. Akpoti-Uduaghan had alleged that Akpabio sexually harassed her on December 8, 2023—an accusation that later led to her suspension from the Senate.

Agbakoba questioned the credibility of the allegation, citing contradictions between the senator’s claims and her subsequent public behavior. Notably, he referenced a social media post made by Akpoti-Uduaghan on December 9, 2023—just a day after the alleged incident—in which she praised Akpabio. He noted that the post has since been deleted.
“Rather than explain the inconsistency, you deleted the social media post. This raises serious concerns about the credibility of your claim,” the letter stated.
The lawyer also raised concerns about the timing of the allegation, which was made more than a year later on February 28, 2025. He further pointed out that Akpoti-Uduaghan continued to appear alongside Akpabio at public and international events in 2024, including the Inter-Parliamentary Union session in Geneva, where they were photographed together.
“You took selfies and posted warm-toned messages on social media featuring Akpabio, which we find to be contradictory and undermining of your allegation,” Agbakoba added.
He maintained that the burden of proof rests with the senator and that her actions following the alleged incident severely weaken her case.
“In light of your failure to address the inconsistencies raised in our first letter, we demand that you retract the sexual harassment allegation against our client,” he stated.
In what appeared to be a defiant response, Akpoti-Uduaghan posted a satirical “apology” on her Facebook page, offering “deepest sarcasm and utmost theatrical regret” for what she described as the “grievous crime of possessing dignity and self-respect” in Akpabio’s presence.
