The Lagos State Police Command is probing three men arrested with suspected human tongues in Lagos.
Two among the suspects, Isah Amohullahi aged 30 and Abubakar Isah aged 32 were arrested with the human parts in a taxi on October 15, 2024, during a routine stop-and-search on Otedola Bridge.
The spokesperson for the command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this in a statement on Tuesday.
Hundeyin said the arrest of the two suspects led to a further arrest of the suspected seller of the human parts in a market in Lagos.
“Further investigations led the operatives to the arrest of another suspect from whom the parts were bought, Gbolahan Temidayo ‘m’, in Oyingbo Market, Lagos.
“Meanwhile, investigation is ongoing at the Command headquarters, at the conclusion of which the suspects would be arraigned if found culpable,” the PPRO said.
The police in Lagos have arrested several suspects for possessing human parts in times past.
In January, the command commended residents of the Adamo area of Ikorodu for apprehending a suspect identified simply as Babalola who was allegedly in possession of a human skull.
It was gathered that the residents handed over the suspect, said to be an Islamic cleric, to the police.
He was arrested alongside some yet-to-be-identified others.
A 29-second video seen in January showed the moment the man, who was in native wear, was surrounded by residents and officials of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps.
He was seen putting a human skull and other suspected human parts in a polythene bag as he bled from one of his eyes.
“We commend the good people of Ikorodu for doing the right thing and not yielding to jungle justice. We will ensure justice is done,” Hundeyin said while retweeting the post by an X user, @DejiAdesogan, about the incident.
“Residents of Adamo area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, have handed over a popular Islamic cleric and four of his men to the police after they were allegedly caught with a human skull and other parts of a human body,” @DejiAdesogan had posted.
