Lawyer’s group debunks viral post on Ambode’s tenure, warns against political distraction

Date:

A legal advocacy organisation, the League of Patriotic Lawyers, has dismissed a widely circulated social media post claiming to expose the reasons behind former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s failure to secure a second term.

The group labelled the claims as baseless, politically driven, and lacking any credible foundation.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos, the League’s Chairman, Abubakar Yesufu—who also represents the Friends of Akinwunmi Ambode (FAA)—clarified that neither the former governor nor any affiliated group had authorized the publication.

“It’s clearly a politically motivated piece designed to divert attention from meaningful discussions about the future of Lagos,” Yesufu stated.

He cautioned that rehashing old political controversies does little to foster progress and could threaten the unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing questions from journalists, Yesufu acknowledged public curiosity about Ambode’s political ties but urged restraint and factual reporting.

“Our focus should be on development and cooperation. Former Governor Ambode remains committed to the vision of a prosperous Lagos and continues to back policies that reflect good governance,” he said.

Yesufu also appealed for patience and national solidarity as Nigeria navigates its current phase of economic and political reforms under President Bola Tinubu.

“Like childbirth, reform is rarely comfortable. It’s tough and takes time—but in the end, the reward is lasting,” he concluded.
