Tinubu scraps Niger Delta, Sports ministries

Date:

President Bola Tinubu has begun the much-awaited reshuffling of his cabinet by scrapping two ministries – the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and the Ministry of Sports Development.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said in an X post that the National Sports Commission will take over the role of the Ministry of Sports.

Mr Onanuga said the reshuffle was decided on Wednesday at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja.

He said the FEC created a ministry known as the Ministry of Regional Development.

“There will now be a ministry of regional development to oversee all the regional development commissions, such as Niger Delta Development Commission, North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission, North East Development Commission,” he wrote.

Onanuga added that the president has also approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy.

This development leaves the fate of Niger Delta Affairs Minister, Abubakar Momoh, and Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, unclear.
