Defection: APC extends invitation to Kwankwaso

Date:

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially extended an invitation to former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to join its ranks.

This invitation came from APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, who expressed the party’s willingness to welcome Kwankwaso should he decide to return.

During a press briefing following a meeting with Alhaji Yusuf Ata, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Ganduje emphasized: “The APC is deepening and widening democracy in the country.”

Addressing speculation about Kwankwaso’s potential return, Ganduje stated: “Kwankwaso is a fish out of water, trying to find its way back into the waters. We cannot say we can’t accommodate him, because a friend in need is a friend indeed. We don’t want to leave him completely abandoned, we can still have him in, if he wants to join us.

“When you see your son running to where he would get shelter and you are a big brother in a big home, I think it is morally right to accommodate him.

“So, we cannot say we cannot accommodate him,” Ganduje emphasized.

During the same event, Ata, a former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, pledged to secure Kano for President Tinubu in the next election cycle.

“We are strongly behind Tinubu and we are working round the clock to ensure we deliver Kano State in 2027,” he declared.

Regarding the prospect of Kwankwaso joining the APC, Ata expressed his personal reservation but deference to party leadership: “For me, I will not want the former Kano State governor to be welcomed into the APC fold. But I have no choice if our national chairman decides to have him on board.”

Political observers have noted ongoing speculation about Kwankwaso’s potential defection to the APC, though no official announcement has been made.

The former governor currently maintains significant political influence in Kano State and is a prominent figure in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), which currently governs Kano.

Reports suggest that internal tensions within the NNPP may be contributing to these defection rumors.
