Ex-IGP Adamu declares bid for Nasarawa gov poll

Date:

Ahead of the 2027 Nasarawa State governorship race, former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has formally declared his intention to contest for the state’s top position.

Adamu, who is running under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), made his declaration during a recent meeting with the party’s State Working Committee in Lafia.

He cited overwhelming calls from citizens and his desire to deliver inclusive governance as the driving forces behind his ambition.

Following his announcement, the Allied Group of Nasarawa Professionals (AGNP) a powerful coalition of business leaders, formal and informal traders—threw its weight behind the former police chief.

The group, in a statement released from its Keffi headquarters on Friday, described Adamu’s entry into the race as a “turning point” for the state.

According to AGNP’s State Director, Husseini Gana, and Publicity Secretary, Saliu Hamzat, the group has already begun mobilising support with the goal of securing one million votes for Adamu.

They praised his tenure as IGP, highlighting his leadership in community policing, strategic security reforms, and the integration of technology in law enforcement as clear evidence of his competence.

“Mohammed Adamu exemplifies the kind of forward-thinking, disciplined leadership Nasarawa needs. His track record speaks volumes,” the group stated.

The AGNP added that its endorsement followed an in-depth review of aspirants’ leadership records and public service credentials.

They emphasized that Adamu’s blend of public service, humanitarian engagement, and policy development qualifies him as the most prepared candidate to lead the state into a new era.

Although AGNP maintains a non-partisan identity, the group openly urged the APC to offer its 2027 gubernatorial ticket to Adamu, describing him as the candidate best suited to sustain Nasarawa’s developmental trajectory.

“Governance demands vision, strategy, and the ability to unite diverse interests,” said Hamzat.

“Adamu brings all of these and more. With him, Nasarawa is poised for a new chapter of inclusive progress.”

The endorsement is expected to reshape political alignments in the state, as consultations and campaigns intensify in the build-up to the 2027 election.
