Kwankwaso slams NNPP defectors, calls move to APC ‘worst political sin’

Date:

Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, the National Leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and former Governor of Kano State, has strongly criticized the ongoing defections from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Describing the trend as the “worst political sin,” Kwankwaso expressed dismay over what he sees as a betrayal of trust.

Speaking on Friday evening from his residence on Miller Road in Kano, Kwankwaso addressed a gathering of supporters from Takai Local Government Area, who had resisted pressures to defect to the APC.

The former governor’s comments come amid significant shifts in the political landscape of Kano, including the recent departure of Senator Abdulrahman Kawu and other federal legislators from the NNPP.

Although he refrained from mentioning names, Kwankwaso cited Kano South as a model of voter discipline and dedication to political ideals.

“Kano South is a lesson. Voters rejected spaghetti, N200 and Atamfa (wrappers) and were patient to vote for the NNPP,” he said.

He lamented the actions of some elected officials who, after securing victories under the NNPP platform, turned their backs on the electorate by aligning with individuals and parties driven solely by personal interest.

“But those who won the election among us decided to abandon the masses and join those who do not have the masses at heart but are only after what they will get for themselves and their families.”

“There is no worse political sin than leaving the party that gave you the opportunity and support but later you abandoned the party. This is the highest level of betrayal,” he added.

Kwankwaso urged younger citizens to remain aware of the motives of some politicians, emphasizing the need for political awareness and loyalty.

He praised the Takai delegation for staying true to the ideals of the movement, commending their decision not to bow to pressure.

He added, “Fighting Kwankwasiyya is not an easy task, they will not know until when they engage in the fight.”

In his remarks, NNPP State Chairman Hashimu Dungurawa also welcomed the group back into the party fold, commending their decision and promising fairness.

“You will be treated equally, without discrimination,” Dungurawa said.
