OPM General Overseer rejects abandoned girl at his gate

Date:

The General Overseer, Omega Power Ministry (OPM), Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, has refused to take in a young girl abandoned at his gate, citing overcrowding and rising food costs.

The cleric shared CCTV footage of the girl on social media and appealed to her parents to come and collect her. He stated that he had contacted the police to take the girl away,

“Happening now, 12 May 2025. Upon my CCTV, see what I found at my gate this morning. E no go work. It’s better her parents come and carry her back. My house is over full, and the price of food has over doubled. Police are on their way to pick her up,” he wrote.

Chinyere’s actions have sparked controversy, given his philanthropic work through the Omega Power Ministry Foundation, which supports hundreds of underprivileged children and runs free institutions, including a school, hospital, and skill acquisition center.

This isn’t the first time Chinyere has rejected abandoned children. In December 2024, he turned away two children brought to his gate, posting their photographs on Facebook and advising their parents to collect them from the Aluu Police station.

Chinyere condemned the act of abandoning the girl, describing it as ‘wickedness’ rather than poverty, saying “No matter how things are difficult, I can never tell my 12-year-old daughter to go and lie down at the gate of a total stranger.

“There is difference between POVERTY AND WICKEDNESS. Instead, I will work as a cleaner or gateman than to do this to my child.”
