PDP is in ICU, govs should rescue party – Suswam

Date:

Following ongoing turmoil within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam has described the party as being in an “Intensive Care Unit” (ICU), suggesting its survival hangs in the balance.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Tuesday, Suswam remarked that many observers are keenly watching to see how the situation unfolds, hinting at growing uncertainty over the party’s future.

His comments follow the unexpected appearance of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, at an expanded PDP Governors’ Forum meeting in Abuja his first participation in a party event in months.

Wike’s return comes amid ongoing internal tensions and a wave of defections that have further strained the PDP.

Despite the challenges, Suswam emphasized that it is the responsibility of PDP governors to take urgent steps to restore unity and stability within the party, warning that inaction could lead to further decline.

He said: “It is incumbent upon the PDP governors to ensure that the party is rescued. Many people are waiting to see the ultimate end of the party. Whether there will be light at the end of the tunnel through the intervention of Sen. Saraki remains to be seen in the coming days. For now, the PDP is in the hospital, currently in the ICU, but it can be saved if the proper medicines are taken.”
