Nigeria experienced a slight decline in its headline inflation rate for April 2025, according to the latest report from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The inflation rate eased to 23.71 percent, a marginal drop from 24.23 percent recorded in March 2025.The NBS revealed this development in its Consumer Price Index (CPI) report released on Thursday.
According to the bureau, the data for April indicates a “decrease of 0.52% compared to the March 2025 Headline inflation rate”.

“On a month-on-month basis, the Headline inflation rate in April 2025 was 1.86%, which was 2.04% lower than the rate recorded in March 2025 (3.90%),” NBS said.
“This means that in April 2025, the rate of increase in the average price level is lower than the rate of increase in the average price level in March 2025.”
The report also highlighted that food inflation for April stood at 21.36 percent year-on-year, marking a significant reduction from 40.53 percent in April 2024.
“The significant decline in the food annual inflation figure is technically due to the change in the base year,” the statistics firm said.
“However, on a month-on-month basis, the Food inflation rate in April 2025 was 2.06%, down by 0.12% compared to March 2025 (2.18%).
“The decrease can be attributed to the rate of decrease in the average prices of Maize (Corn) Flour, Wheat Grain, Okra Dried, Yam Flour, Soya Beans, Rice, Bambara beans, Brown Beans, etc.”
Regional analysis showed that Benue, Ekiti, and Kebbi states recorded the highest year-on-year food inflation rates in April, at 51.76 percent, 34.05 percent, and 33.82 percent respectively.
In contrast, Ebonyi (7.19 percent), Adamawa (9.52 percent), and Ogun (9.91 percent) saw the smallest increases.
On a month-to-month basis, Benue again led with the highest food inflation rate at 25.59 percent, followed by Ekiti at 16.73 percent and Yobe at 13.92 percent.
Meanwhile, Ebonyi, Kano, and Ogun experienced negative month-on-month food inflation, recording -14.43 percent, -11.37 percent, and -7.06 percent respectively.
