NDLEA operatives uncover cocaine hidden in ‘aso-ebi’ fila, gele

Date:

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted an attempt to smuggle cocaine hidden inside traditional Nigerian attire—specifically, male caps known as “fila” and female headwraps called “gele.”

This was disclosed by NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, on Sunday in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

He issued a caution to Nigerians, urging them to be vigilant and avoid accepting traditional clothing items for transport abroad on behalf of others.

“In case you’re asked to help take as part of your luggage to Europe or elsewhere any aso ebi fila and gele (traditional male cap and female headgear), the latest seizure of cocaine concealed in such materials uncovered by #ndlea_nigeria will make you think twice,” Babafemi wrote, accompanying the post with images and a video of the seized items.

Breakingng.com recalls that last week, NDLEA operatives uncovered a concealed compartment within the body of an oil tanker, allegedly designed to facilitate the distribution of illicit drugs across different parts of the country.
