PSC chair warns against unethical practices ahead of police promotion interviews

Date:

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd), has cautioned that the upcoming police promotion interview is not a “do-or-die” affair, warning that anyone attempting to compromise the process will face strict disciplinary action.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by Ikechukwu Ani, the Commission’s Head of Press and Public Relations.

The Departmental Selection Board (DSB) interview for Inspectors seeking promotion to the rank of unconfirmed Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP II) is set to commence tomorrow across all 17 Police Zonal Command Headquarters nationwide.

Argungu emphasised that officers participating in the exercise must be well-prepared to face the panel and earn their promotions based on merit.

He reaffirmed that promotions within the Nigeria Police Force would continue to be determined by merit and the availability of vacancies.

He further stressed the Commission’s commitment to fostering a professional police culture where merit, competence, and innovation are central—particularly in this era of intelligence-led policing.

The PSC Chairman encouraged candidates to trust the system and allow the interview process to proceed transparently and fairly.

The statement also noted that the promotion interviews will be jointly supervised by senior police officers and officials from the Commission.

Additionally, PSC Commissioners will monitor the exercise within their respective geopolitical zones to maintain the integrity and credibility of the process.
