Building under construction collapses in Mushin, three injured

Date:

A storey building under construction collapsed on Sunday along Ishaga Road, directly opposite the Idi Araba Central Mosque in the Mushin area of Lagos.

Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that a distress call was received around 4:30 p.m.

Emergency responders from the Isolo Fire Station, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, the Lagos State Ambulance Service, and the Nigeria Police were swiftly deployed to the scene.

Three adult males were rescued alive from the rubble with varying degrees of injuries.

They received initial treatment at the scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further medical attention.

Adeseye stated that investigations into the cause of the collapse are underway, and search and rescue efforts are still ongoing as of the time of this report.

This latest incident adds to a worrying trend of building collapses in Lagos. In January, a two-storey building under construction gave way in the Ikota area of Lekki, killing two men.

In April, another collapse occurred in Ojodu-Berger, where seven people lost their lives and thirteen others were rescued.
