Tinubu didn’t create problems we’re facing today – Gov Umo Eno

Date:

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts in addressing the nation’s challenges, describing his performance over the past two years as “wonderful.”

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday after a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima at the State House, Governor Eno urged Nigerians to support the President, emphasizing that many of the current issues predated the Tinubu administration.

“President Tinubu didn’t create the problems we’re facing today,” Eno stated. “In my view, he is doing his best, and we need to support him to see it through.”

His remarks come as national attention turns to President Tinubu’s upcoming second anniversary in office on May 29, amid ongoing discussions about the administration’s economic and security reforms.

Reflecting on his own administration, Governor Eno noted steady progress in Akwa Ibom across sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and commerce, expressing optimism about the state’s development trajectory.

“When you come to Akwa Ibom, you find out that we have covered all of this, and we are working. So those are the things we have achieved, from schools to hospitals, to roads, to markets. In all areas, we are on the ground,” he said.

Looking ahead, Governor Eno said his administration would prioritize major infrastructure projects, building upon the rural development initiatives established during his first two years in office.

“Super infrastructural development. The first two years have been on rural development. We are now moving on to great infrastructure. We want to make Akwa Ibom a tourist destination, and we are on the way”, he promised.

In response to a question about what sets his administration apart, Governor Eno acknowledged the efforts of his predecessors, commending their contributions to Akwa Ibom’s development. He added that his government is focused on building upon the solid foundation they laid.

“I think we have built on what my predecessors have done. Akwa Ibom has been particularly lucky. We have been blessed with good leaders—from Obong Attah to Akpabio, to Chief Udom Emmanuel, and me.

“That’s the trajectory. So it’s a foundation—you come, you build—and it’s a solid foundation. I think the state is doing well compared to other states”, he said.

Addressing the crucial issue of youth development, the governor highlighted a range of initiatives focused on empowering young people through skills acquisition, entrepreneurship support, and job creation programs.

“We are investing in our youth. We are training, skill acquisition, we are supporting small and medium enterprises. We are ensuring that our youth get employed, and we have opened an employment portal,” he explained.

He added: “We train them, give them skills, and ensure that we support small and medium enterprises by recreating the middle class. That’s what we are doing, and we are building upon those roots.”
