In spite of being rich and famous, Afrobeats sensation, Ayra Starr, has said she still lives with her family in Nigeria.
The 21-year-old revealed in an interview with Coco Jones for Rolling Stone’s “Musicians on Musicians” issue how she keeps family and friends close despite career heights.
“When I go back home [Nigeria], I still live with my family. My brothers are making noise playing video games,” the singer, born Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, said.
“I still involve my friends in my life. We have a group chat where I solicit their opinions on what I wear. I thank God for my friends and family. Although, sometimes, it gets overwhelming and I have to disappear.”
Signed to Mavin Records, Ayra Starr quickly gained popularity with her self-titled EP in 2021, showcasing her unique blend of Afro-pop, R&B, and soul.
Her breakout single ‘Away’ and debut album “19 & Dangerous” solidified her place in the industry, with hits like ‘Bloody Samaritan’ resonating widely.
