Hamas commander Mohammed Sinwar killed in Israeli airstrike

Date:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has confirmed that Mohammed Sinwar, a senior Hamas commander and brother to former leader Yahya Sinwar, was killed in a recent airstrike.

Netanyahu made the announcement during a briefing to the Knesset on Wednesday, stating that the Israeli military has significantly altered the regional landscape through its military operations in Gaza.

“We changed the face of the Middle East. We expelled the terrorists from our territory, entered the Gaza Strip with full force, and eliminated tens of thousands of terrorists,” Netanyahu told lawmakers.

“We took down Mohammad Deif, Ismail Haniyeh, Yahya Sinwar, and now Mohammed Sinwar.”

Mohammed Sinwar reportedly rose to a leadership position within Hamas after his brother Yahya was killed in an Israeli operation last October.

He had been one of Israel’s most sought-after targets and was believed to be the focus of a recent Israeli strike on a hospital in southern Gaza.

His death marks the latest in a series of targeted operations by Israel aimed at dismantling the top leadership of Hamas.

Although Netanyahu’s statement signals a major blow to the militant group, Hamas has not yet issued an official comment on the reported killing.
