Afrobeats star, CKay, exits Warner Music after 3 years

Date:

Global Afrobeats star, CKay, has officially concluded his recording agreement with Warner Music South Africa, marking the end of a defining era in his career.

The artist, known for his viral global hits ‘Love Nwantiti’, ‘Emiliana’, and others, confirmed that the decision not to renew his contract was mutual and strategic.

Speaking on the development, CKay said: “Every journey has a beginning and an end, and my journey with Warner Music South Africa was a very important one which I’m grateful for. Now it’s time for me to explore new energy and new horizons.”

According to the Pulse, CKay’s deal with Warner Music South Africa followed his global smash hit ‘Love Nwantiti,’ which sets new highs for Afrobeats globally.

He leads the RIAA list of top selling Nigerian artists, thanks to his mega hit ‘Love Nwantiti’, which is spearheading the push for the first Afrobeats RIAA Diamond plaque.

Under the record label, the acclaimed singer and producer released two albums. He dropped his debut LP ‘Sad Romance’ in 2022 and his sophomore album ‘Emotions’ in 2024.

With over 2 billion streams and a reputation for pushing Afrobeats into international lanes, fans will be eager for what comes next for CKay.

Readers will recall that just before releasing his sophomore album in 2024, Ckay announced the launch of his label, Boyfriend Music.

CKay’s subsequent releases will likely be under his imprint as he aims to continue his strides as one of African pop music’s most creatively daring artists, whose music has opened the global commercial doors for African music.
