AGN suspends actress Halima Abubakar over slander allegations

Date:

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has suspended actress Halima Abubakar who is suspected of feeding bloggers with slanderous information about her colleagues.

In a statement on Friday, the guild said its decision to suspend the movie star followed an extensive internal investigation.

“Following a thorough investigative report by the special Secret Investigation Panel, which was tasked with looking into activities of some blogs and bloggers since 2022, it was concluded that Miss Halima Abubakar was behind the defamatory information targeting our members, associates, and patrons,” the statement said.

Halima will not be allowed to participate in any film or AGN-related activities, according to the guild.

The statement also said she would face a disciplinary panel to determine further consequences.

According to the AGN, the investigation found that Halima was the source of accusations of extramarital affairs involving high-profile individuals in society among others.

The statement also noted that several female members of the AGN are still under investigation following the recent release of names linked to controversial reports involving high-ranking individuals in Nigerian society.

The guild said Halima would face further disciplinary action if she violated the terms of her suspension.
