Nigerian singer, Ayra Starr, is making her Hollywood debut in the film adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling novel, ‘Children of Blood and Bone’.
The movie, set to release on January 15, 2027, is produced by Lucasfilm and features an ensemble cast, including Viola Davis, Idris Elba, and Cynthia Erivo.
Ayra Starr joins other newly announced cast members, such as Richard Mofe-Damijo, Pamilerin Ayodeji, and British-Nigerian basketball player, Temi Fagbenle.
The film’s director, Gina Prince-Bythewood, had sent out a casting call in November 2024 for Nigerian actors between the ages of 10 and mid-20s.
‘Children of Blood and Bone’ is a young adult romantic fantasy novel that tells the story of Zélie Adebola’s quest to restore magic to the kingdom of Orïsha.
The book was adapted into an American fantasy movie after Adeyemi secured a seven-figure deal with Fox Studios. Filming began in South Africa in February.
