Chris Brown arrested in Manchester over 2023 London nightclub attack

Date:

36-year-old American rapper, Chris Brown, was arrested early Thursday morning at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester, UK.

The arrest is connected to a 2023 nightclub bottle attack in London, where Brown allegedly assaulted music producer, Abe Diaw, at Tape nightclub in Hanover Square, Mayfair.

Brown was detained by Metropolitan Police officers just after 2 a.m. on May 15, 2025, at the luxury hotel. He had arrived in the UK on a private jet the previous afternoon, landing at Manchester Airport.

The police investigation was initiated after Diaw launched a civil claim against Brown for $16 million in damages for injuries and losses suffered as a result of the alleged attack.

According to reports, Diaw claims Brown carried out an unprovoked attack on him, smashing a bottle over his head and then punching and kicking him, resulting in severe and lasting injuries.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed the arrest, stating that a 36-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

Brown’s arrest may affect his upcoming UK tour, Breezy Bowl XX, which was set to kick off on June 8th in Amsterdam. The tour marks 20 years of his career and includes performances at several UK venues, including Manchester’s Co-Op Live, London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and Birmingham’s Villa Park.

As of now, it’s unclear whether the scheduled performances will proceed as planned. Brown’s representatives have not commented on the arrest.
