Nigerian comedian Acapella has disclosed that he received several threats after defending claims that Lagos State is facing environmental issues, particularly after popular influencer, Scott Iguma’s viral video stating that Lagos smells and is infested with ‘big mosquitoes’.
Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, responded by accusing individuals from other states of trying to tarnish the image of Lagos.
Acapella criticized the Commissioner, alleging that he applied double standards based on ethnicity and origin.
This led to heated social media exchanges between the comedian and supporters of the Lagos State Government.
Acapella revealed via his X handle that he received several direct messages and calls containing empty threats. He stood firm, stating, “Over the past days, as expected, I’ve received several DMs and calls making empty treats here and there. But, let me make it clear, that no Nigerian is more Nigerian than any other Nigerian.
“Don’t let anybody gaslight you into believing you are de-marketing the country; especially when you point out the ills that befalls us as a nation.
“The first step to solving any problem is to first identify there’s one. We are all we have. I hope with these few points of mine, I can rest my case for now.”
