Nigerian music superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, is set to make history as the first Afrobeats artist to feature on King Charles III’s Commonwealth Music playlist.
The playlist, dubbed ‘The King’s Music Room’, is a special project celebrating music from Commonwealth nations, and it’s scheduled to drop on Monday, March 11.¹
Davido will be sharing the spotlight with legendary artists like Bob Marley, Kylie Minogue, and Grace Jones.
King Charles III personally curated the playlist, selecting songs that bring him joy and nostalgia from different periods of his life.
The British monarch has always been a fan of reggae and African music, having even visited Bob Marley’s home in Jamaica years ago.
A trailer for the project showed the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace playing Marley’s ‘Could You Be Loved’.
Music holds a special place in his heart, as he believes it has the power to comfort, lift spirits, and bring people together in celebration.
Davido’s inclusion in this royal playlist is a testament to his global influence and the growing popularity of Afrobeats worldwide.
