I’m the real ambassador, Davido knocks TVC presenter for criticising statement on Nigerian economy

Date:

Afrobeat singer Davido has responded to criticism stemming from his remarks on the US podcast The Big Homies House.

In the interview, Davido cautioned Black Americans against relocating to Nigeria, citing economic struggles, while emphasising his intent to focus on the positives rather than the harsh realities of slums.

His comments drew backlash from public figures such as Reno Omokri, actor Patrick Doyle, and TVC presenter Akashat Nymat.

Omokri urged Davido to emulate Rihanna, who consistently uplifts her home country, Barbados, on global platforms.

Nymat echoed similar sentiments, questioning Davido’s contributions to Nigeria and contrasting him with American celebrities who, she claimed, rarely criticise their homeland publicly. She advised the singer to show more caution and gratitude toward Nigeria, the nation that fuelled his rise to global stardom.

Davido, in response, took to his X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday with a seemingly sarcastic retort, tagging TVC News and writing, “Lmao @tvcnewsng nah today??”

In a follow-up post, he doubled down, calling himself a true representative of Africa and implying that the criticism arose from his influence. “Y’all mad ’cus we the Real AMBASSADORS!!” he declared.

He also expressed pride in his podcast appearance, specifically his accent, saying, “The way my accent be for that interview Dey sweet me—very demure.”
