The 2025 American Music Awards has announced its nominees, with four Nigerian superstars – Tems, Asake, Rema, and Wizkid – competing in the Favourite Afrobeats Category.
The award show, set to return for its 51st installment, will be hosted by Jennifer Lopez and aired on CBS on May 25.
The Nigerian contingent is up against South African star, Tyla, for the coveted prize. Each of the nominees has made significant contributions to the music industry in recent times.
Tems’ debut album “Born In The Wild” and Rema’s sophomore album “HEIS” were both nominated for the Grammys. Asake’s third album “Lungu Boy” and Wizkid’s sixth LP “Morayo” have also garnered critical acclaim.
Fan voting is now open on (link unavailable) and the @AMAs Instagram profile. Voting closes on Thursday, May 15, at 11:59 p.m. PT, except for Collaboration of the Year and Social Song of the Year, which will remain open through the first 30 minutes of the AMAs broadcast.
The recognition of these Nigerian artists at the American Music Awards is a testament to the global appeal of Afrobeats and the impact of African music on the world stage.
